Proudly carrying a Teamster union card for more than a quarter century, Local 299 Merchants Forwarding member John Williford has worked hard to help build Teamster strength.  Williford has dedicated his career to upholding the motto: Unity in the leadership — solidarity in the ranks.

Williford, a Local 299 member for 25 years and Steward for 20 years, prides himself on doing everything possible to keep his members informed, while also working to promote Local 299’s larger objective of justice and dignity for all rank-and-file members.

“The Teamsters Union provides valuable support for working men and women,” Williford said. “I have long believed that when we all make an effort to do something, we will see positive results and we will all be better off because of our commitment.”

Williford is active in political action through phone banks and door-to-door canvassing, and is an elected precinct delegate. He attends all seminars offered by both Local 299 and Teamsters Joint Council #43, because he believes that in order to have a solid reputation with both the members and company, Stewards must receive ongoing training to enhance their worksite leadership skills.

John goes above and beyond to help. He has participated in rallies for carhaul and freight members,  joined Lansing protests against right-to work and he has walked countless picketlines with union members seeking fairness from their employer.  Williford always marches in the annual Detroit Labor Day parade, and is a highly-dedicated Local 299 Community Service volunteer supporting the Gleaners Food Bank.
