Teamsters Joint Council #43 is the political and legisaltive arm of Teamsters across Michigan.  Our 13 affiliated local unions represent workers in diverse industries, demonstrating the strength and influence that Teamsters provide in the workplace.  Local unions are listed on this website, and those with their individual website can be contacted by clicking on the appropriate local union in the “Important Links” box at left.

Our combined membership totals 65,000 hard-working men and women in various public and private sector jobs.  Michigan Teamsters represent workers in transportation, warehouse, manufacturing, construction, carhaul, freight, bakery and laundry, industrial, package delivery, moving companies, solid waste and recycling, building materials and construction trades, tankhaul, casinos, newspapers, beer and wine distribution, school employees as well as diverse public sector jobs.  

We are proudly affiliated with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, which represents 1.4 million workers across the United States and Canada.

Joint Council #43’s Core Leadership Principles

Rank-and-file Teamsters deserve strong leadership.  This is why Michigan Teamsters Joint Council #43 has adopted five core leadership principles to guide us in our efforts to provide first-class union representation to our local unions and their members: 

Political Action - Speaking with one unified voice on issues and candidates.  Supporting candidates, regardless of political party, who will support Teamsters and working families.

Organizing - Increasing the Joint Council’s commitment to organizing.  A fair distribution of new members to Local Unions is a priority.

Teamwork - Renewing the relationship with the International Union.  Their assistance is necessary for Joint Council #43 to grow and succeed in the future.

Assistance to Local Unions - Helping our affiliated Local Unions in contract negotiations and contract enforcement, as well as assisting with organizing campaigns and informational demonstrations is vital to help protect strong industry standards which are the hallmark of the Teamsters Union.

Accountability - Demanding transparence and enforcing accountability for Joint Council #43 staff and expenditures.
